Introduction to APEDA #

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is an autonomous organization established by the Government of India under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act, 1985. APEDA is responsible for the development and promotion of exports of agricultural and processed food products from India.

Functions and Objectives of APEDA #

APEDA aims to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Develop and promote exports of agricultural and processed food products.
  2. Facilitate the creation of infrastructure for the development of the export-oriented food processing industry.
  3. Provide financial assistance to stakeholders for the improvement of packaging, processing, and marketing of agricultural and processed food products.
  4. Promote quality control and standardization in the food processing industry.
  5. Undertake surveys, research, and analysis to identify potential markets for Indian agricultural and processed food products.

To achieve these objectives, APEDA performs various functions, including:

  1. Coordinating the efforts of various stakeholders to promote the export of agricultural and processed food products.
  2. Providing financial assistance for the development of infrastructure, packaging, and marketing.
  3. Registering eligible exporters and issuing certificates of registration.
  4. Implementing quality control and inspection mechanisms to ensure the quality and safety of food products.
  5. Organizing trade fairs, buyer-seller meets, and promotional activities to showcase Indian agricultural and processed food products in international markets.

Role of APEDA in Exports #

APEDA plays a crucial role in promoting the export of agricultural and processed food products from India by:

APEDA Schemes #

APEDA has several schemes in place to support the development and promotion of agricultural and processed food product exports. Some of the key schemes are:

  1. Transport Assistance Scheme: Provides financial assistance for the transportation of agricultural and processed food products to new or remote markets.
  2. Market Development Assistance (MDA) Scheme: Offers financial assistance to exporters for participation in international trade fairs, exhibitions, and other promotional activities.
  3. Quality Development Scheme: Provides financial assistance for improving the quality of products, packaging, and processing facilities.
  4. Infrastructure Development Scheme: Supports the creation of export-oriented infrastructure, such as cold storage facilities, packhouses, and transportation facilities.

APEDA Certificates #

APEDA issues various certificates to exporters, ensuring compliance with international standards and regulations. Some of the critical certificates issued by APEDA are:

  1. Registration-cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC): Mandatory for exporters dealing with APEDA-scheduled products to avail of benefits under various schemes.
  2. Certificate of Origin: Certifies that the exported products are of Indian origin and are eligible for preferential tariffs or other benefits in the importing country.
  3. Health Certificate: Ensures that the exported products meet the sanitary and phytosanitary requirements of the importing country.
  4. Organic Certificate: Certifies that the exported products are produced, processed, and handled according to the organic standards specified by the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP).

APEDA Membership #

To apply for APEDA membership, interested stakeholders need to fill up the membership application form available on the APEDA website. The application form needs to be filled in detail, and necessary documents such as PAN card, GST registration, and bank details need to be submitted along with the form.

After the submission of the application form, APEDA will conduct a site inspection of the applicant’s premises to verify their eligibility. Once the verification is complete, the applicant will receive their membership certificate, which is valid for five years.

Guidance and Consultancy – APEDA provides guidance and consultancy services to its members on matters related to export procedures, documentation, and regulatory compliance
