What happened

The Department of Commerce's monthly trade release (PIB, 15 October 2026) estimates India's combined merchandise and services exports for April–September 2026 at US$ 476.20 billion, up 13.84% from US$ 418.31 billion a year earlier.

For September alone, total exports were estimated at US$ 80.75 billion, up 10.99% (figures as reported by A2Z Taxcorp from the release, 16 October 2026).

Which sectors and markets grew

  • Electronic goods +70.44% in September, to US$ 5.31 billion.
  • Engineering goods +20.91%, to US$ 12.17 billion.
  • Organic and inorganic chemicals +24.21%; cotton yarn, fabrics and made-ups +20.76%.
  • Exports to the United States rose 47.99% in September, even with the 10% Section 301 duty.

Why it matters

Demand for Indian goods in the US held up after the tariff changes of 2026, and electronics is now one of the fastest-growing export lines. Services exports slipped a little in September compared with a year earlier.

What to watch

The October figures, due in mid-November, will show whether this growth held. The India–New Zealand FTA has applied only since 20 October, so its effect will show up later.
